Choose business at Lilly, and you’ll actually be choosing from three very different career paths. It all depends on which passion you’re intent on pursuing. Opportunities in Marketing, Finance and Human Resources present their own set of unique challenges and rewards, with each one making the most of the talents and skills you bring to the table.
Our engineers design and develop the facilities and processes that keep our researchers at the cutting-edge of the pharmaceutical industry. From our industry defining laboratories to our manufacturing facilities and beyond, our diverse engineering force keeps us state-of-the art.
Science and Technology
This is where it all begins – where the products that help better the lives of millions are conceptualized and produced. Science and technology are the essence of Lilly, the disciplines that continually propel us as industry leaders.
We were founded by Eli Lilly in 1876, and are now the 10th largest pharmaceutical company in the world. We have steadfastly remained independent, but not isolated. Across the globe, Lilly has developed productive alliances and partnerships that advance our capacity to develop innovative medicines at lower costs. Lilly is consistently ranked as one of the best companies in the world to work for, and generations of Lilly employees have sustained a culture that values excellence, integrity, and respect for people.
Supporting our Communities and People
Corporate responsibility is not just a fad we have recently embraced; it is a fundamental part of who we are.
As one of the largest employees in the state of Indiana, we have a big impact on our local economy. According to a recent study by the Indiana Business Research Center at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, we contributed about $8 billion in 2007 to the economy of our home state.
The Lilly heritage and culture values philanthropy and community support. Ranked as one of the most generous companies in the world, in 2010 alone Lilly contributed more than $440 million in cash, products and other in-kind donations to charitable causes.
One of our goals is to improve access to medicines, and our emphasis has been on diseases where we have industry-leading therapies and historic expertise, including diabetes, depression, and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Over the last few years, for example, we have committed $135 million in cash, medicines, and technology toward the fight against MDR-TB. We also support programs that improve patient outcomes, such as scholarships, award recognitions, and tools for healthy living.
More than a summer job. It’s a jump on the future.
In today’s job market, experience will most likely give you the edge. But the question is, how do you get that experience when you’re just starting out? Enter Lilly’s Internship Program, step one in building your resume with experience that’s real-world. And hands-on.
Most internships are located at our corporate headquarters in Indianapolis and last 10-12 weeks, from May until September. We seek top performers – those who can uphold the Lilly values and exemplify our global standards of leadership. Then we match you with projects based on our business needs and your skills and interests.
As a Lilly intern, you’ll be working on meaningful projects at one of the world's top pharmaceutical companies. You’ll meet and interact with Lilly executives and participate in Lilly courses especially designed to help students learn specific, targeted skills. You’ll receive competitive pay, a subsidized housing offer, relocation assistance, access to sport, social and cultural events, and free parking.
At Lilly, we view our Corporate MBA talent as future leaders, and encourage college undergraduates to pursue an MBA education. Our MBAs are from leading business schools and universities and have the experiences and possess the character that it takes to be a great leader. We are looking for MBAs throughout the world within our Marketing, Finance, and Human Resources functions. Regardless of your position, you will represent the Lilly brand and be required to model our values, take action and accountability, work in a team, and lead/engage others as you deliver business results.

Our organization can proudly point to more than a decade of commitment to creating a diverse organization. We understand that diversity is not just about the mix of people in an organization; it’s about how we leverage this mix in our culture to enable each one of us to achieve our full potential. It’s what we refer to as inclusiveness. Inclusiveness at its core is about harnessing the incredible range of experiences and perspectives that we have ― whether they are driven by gender, ethnicity, generational differences, sexual orientation or abilities ― to create exceptional experiences that lead to growth for our people and our clients.
Over the past several years, I’ve been talking to faculty at universities about the importance of diversity and inclusiveness as it relates to their students’ future. In particular, it’s important that students learn to work on diverse teams before they graduate into the global corporate world. Future success relies on the ability to work with people whose life experiences might be very different from yours, while also bringing your own individual perspective to the table. The bottom line is that research clearly shows that diverse teams arrive at better solutions ― and we’re seeing that borne out in the marketplace.
So as you look to define your future, as a professional and as a woman, we want to provide you with all the tools and information necessary to make informed decisions about your career. Please take a moment to browse the EY profile on this site, and then learn more about our culture of inclusiveness and career opportunities on our career site.
